This position is located in the Patient Registration Department, within the Hopi Health Care Center in Polacca, Arizona. This position performs patient registration and eligibility services to new and returning patients. Patients are interviewed for the purpose of obtaining patient demographic and insurance information. This information is collected to bill the alternate resources and to identify who may be eligible for alternate resources or Purchased/Referred Care benefits.
Duties
Interviews patients and/or family member(s) in person or by telephone to obtain pertinent patient demographic information while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Interviews patients to obtain information to initiate a new medical record chart and works with Medical Records to retrieve a new record number, retired/stored record, maintain record keeping of logs, and enters information into the RPMS Patient Registration System.
Identifies patients with health insurance and collects patients third party recipient health cards, obtains photocopies of health insurance cards, i.e., Medicare, Medicaid (AHCCCS), Private Insurance.
Reviews and corrects errors from the Patient Error & Warning Audit Detailed report for Patient Registration.
Works with Patient Benefit Coordination in screening patients for potential eligibility for alternate resources and completes patient referrals in RPMS Patient Registration System to be referred to them.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Work experience that demonstrates knowledge of eligibility requirements for health care benefit programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security Insurance, First Steps, and other similar resources to respond to inquiries from individuals as they relate to health services the medical facility can provide, solve problems or educate individuals about medical facility health programs and procedures.
OR
Four (4) years of education above the high school level. NOTE: One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (Must submit copy of transcripts with application.)
OR
Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the GS-05 grade level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-06:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Knowledge of, and skill in applying, an extensive body of rules and procedures concerning benefits processing sufficient to clarify benefit processes and procedures to customers; conduct personal or telephone interviews; search records or guidelines; provide full explanations in response to specific inquiries relating to the agency; resolve problems and issues; evaluate the extent of customers' knowledge of the options and choices open to them; explain the requirements placed on them by laws and regulations; and review records and contact other offices to learn the status of pending actions, the reasons for delays or changes, and what action or additional information is required to resolve the case.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
