This position is located in the Health Administrative Service (HAS) Line and reports to the Supervisory Telephone Operator.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Providing comprehensive telephone and telecommunications support to the facility and associated sites; Providing a welcoming and positive first impression of the healthcare system; Processing incoming, outgoing, networked, and interoffice calls regarding hospital services, patient information, and providing emergency notification information; Receiving and directing phone calls or providing information of a routine nature; Ascertaining the nature of calls to provide referral services; Operating a centralized telephone system to receive and connect incoming and outgoing calls utilizing complex computerized equipment and telecommunications software; Maintaining the confidentiality of patient information; Maintaining an opt-in list of patients admitted to the facility; Providing directions to visitors in the hospital; Keeping records of all threatening or emergency related calls and ensuring proper follow-up; Facilitating follow-up on patient complaints; Responding to alarms for and acting as a key member of the team for various emergency/disaster situations; Dispatching information according to alarm requirements; Performing related duties as required. Work Schedule: During the training period for the position, the work schedule will be Monday through Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm. After completion of training, the office schedule will be determined, but may be Monday through Friday 5:00am - 1:30pm, Tuesday through Saturday 3:00pm - 11:00pm, or Monday through Friday 11:00am - 7:30pm. All schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the facility. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-04: One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~OR~ An associate's degree or 2 years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Transcripts required. ~OR~ An equivalent combination of general experience and post high school education that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. Your experience must be detailed in your resume and transcripts required. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work of this position is sedentary. The employee sits comfortably to do the work. There is some moving around to adjust equipment and carrying of light items such as papers and books. The operator must be able to ambulate around the Pittsburg campus and periodically travel to the Heinz campus. The work involves the common risks or discomforts typical of offices, meeting rooms, libraries, and the like. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Work areas in or near computer rooms may be environmentally controlled and, although cool, require only normal clothing to compensate for minor discomfort.
