This position is located on the Lyndon B. Johnson Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center. The incumbent is responsible for administering the Behavior Management System (BMS) and/or Student Code of Conduct (SCC) program that include both student discipline and the incentive system. Position will be filled at the GS-8 level with promotion potential to the GS-9. For additional information about the duties of this position, please contact Todd Doolittle at 828-524-1401.

Duties

Ensure that actions taken in dealing with students fully comply with established standards. Administer a balanced behavior management program. Motivate students and gain their acceptance of and adherence to residential living goals. Conduct group meetings, as well as a knowledge of counseling techniques sufficient to provide individual guidance to students. Defuse situations that commonly occur in a group living environment involving interpersonal conflicts between/among students. Recognize potentially adverse or sensitive situations that may require special or professional handling to refer to the appropriate person. Clarify situations, exchange information, or resolve legal entanglements. Meet and deal with a variety of people, including local authorities, students' families, and off-Center visitors to clarify, obtain, and provide information in handling student activities and problems.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards. Your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience requirements. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: GS08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7); OR have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related, that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (such as social behavior, human behavior, psychology, or counseling); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience are the majority of the following: Worked in a behavior management program where the primary responsibility involved guiding and counseling students; Trained staff on group living disciplinary policies and procedures and assisted in maintaining discipline in a group living environment; Served as a proctor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
