About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing. Employees have access to the recreational facilities.

Duties

Serve as a senior leader within the Operations and Maintenance Division. Work under the direction of the Division Chief who provides oral and written instructions and relies on the incumbent to direct the accomplishment of assigned work operations within the limits of established policies and basic production schedules. Manage all functional activities according to broad outlines as to objectives and results desired. Direct a variety of related work operations or functions in several units through multiple levels of supervision. Manage through subordinate supervisors three branches of Operations and Maintenance Division: Land Maintenance, General Support, Custodial.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
• Required to use/maintain prescribed safety/protective clothing and equipment such as a hard hat, safety glasses, shoes, belts, face shields, hearing protection, gloves, coveralls and chemical resistant clothing and foul weather gear.
• May be required to wear escape respiratory protection.
• This position requires participation in the Medical Surveillance Program to include passing a physical examination prior to appointment and annually thereafter.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to work scheduled, unscheduled and emergency overtime.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster).
• The incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an General Maintenance Supervisor without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex General Maintenance Supervisor duties. I can plan weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates. I can explain work requirements, methods, and procedures and provide advice when problems arise. In addition, I develop performance standards, counsels employees on performance, and make formal and informal performance appraisals. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
