You will serve as an Engineering Equipment Operator, Production Division, Public Works Department Great Lakes of Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic.

Duties

You will operate various types of heavy construction type equipment where power is transmitted through complicated shifting, hydraulic and steering controls. You will read specifications, sketches, and grade stakes for the fine grading of surfaces. You will apply knowledge of the nature of soil and features of different types of terrain to determine the proper approach to be used. You will communicate orally to serve as lead worker on a project and/or to interface and coordinate with contract employees. You will exercise familiarity with all OSHA regulations regarding trench safety, such as using trench boxes, shoring, or sloping or benching techniques.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • Possess and maintain a state Commercial Driver's License, Class A, and obtain any necessary endorsements such as Passenger, Tanker, and Hazardous, which may be needed to accomplish the department's mission (within 180 days of placement).
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You may be assigned to a similar position at any site or workstation within the commuting area.
  • You will be designated as a member of the Facility Spill Response Team and will be required to respond to oil spill emergencies.
  • You will be designated as an Essential employee and be required to work regardless of emergency conditions or closure of the Naval Base.
  • You will be required to respond to snow emergencies declared by the Director of Transportation or normal plowing operations initiated by the immediate supervisor or other emergencies.
