This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. You will serve as an Engineering Equipment Operator in the Production Division PWD Great Lakes, IL. Duties

You will be responsible for the overall safety and housekeeping on all projects assigned, while overseeing Motor Vehicle Operators, Laborers, and other lower graded personnel assigned. You will operate equipment by means of various engine speeds, gear shifting, hydraulic pressure, clutch, brake, and steering controls, differing widely from those on ordinary trucks or passenger cars. You will excavate earth for installation or repair of various underground utility systems such as sanitary and storm sewers, water distribution, steam piping, natural gas, and high voltage electric. You will manipulate different sets of controls simultaneously in order to maneuver basic vehicles in coordination with working attachments. You will ensure proper barricades, signs, and fencing for securing excavations at the end of the workday.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Operating various types of heavy construction type equipment where power is transmitted through complicated shifting, hydraulic and steering controls; 2) Reading specifications, sketches, and grade stakes for the fine grading of surfaces; 3) Demonstrating knowledge of the nature of soil and features of different types of terrain to determine the proper approach to be used; 4) Communicating orally, sufficient to serve as lead worker on a project and/or to interface and coordinate with contract employees; 5) Demonstrating experience serving as the "Competent Person" on excavation projects assigned; and 6) Practicing all OSHA regulations regarding trench safety, such as using trench boxes, shoring, or sloping or benching techniques.
