The position performs recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeyman and other higher-graded workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.

Duties

The primary purpose of the position is to perform recurring building maintenance and operational duties to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. The major duties of this position are carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and masonry repairs to buildings and quarters. Uses both hand and power tools such as hammers, bars, handsaws, screw drivers, squares, skill saws, jig saws, routers, hand-held belt sanders and drills. The incumbent utilizes a wide variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the plumbing and electrical trade. This position is not required to perform specified length and angled cuts required of higher graded electricians. This position performs masonry work that involves limited difficulty in the maintenance, repair, construction, and/or stabilization of historic sites build of stone, mortar, or adobe and/or contemporary buildings, features or structures. As directed, mixes soils, water and amendments for mortars or adobes; removes damaged portions of walls or other similar architectural features in preparation of repair work and may perform duties that require a basic knowledge of applicable techniques and procedures to complete simple projects; and records location, time, and materials involved in process. Incumbent will also perform other duties such as roofing, cement finishing, custodial/laborer, motor vehicle and equipment operation/maintenance and other lower graded duties as assigned.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervisor (SCREEN OUT: Ability to perform the most difficult and complex maintenance work which includes experience in at least two of the following trades: Electrical, Masonry, Wastewater Treatment Operating, Engineering Equipment Operation, and Water Treatment Plant Operating. This is evidence by leading others in performing basic tests and measurements, selecting tools, and deciding on methods and techniques to use.) Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of measuring instruments If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
