The primary purpose of this position is to perform work of limited scope or difficulty involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities, and to assist journeyman or other higher graded maintenance workers in performing more difficult assignments associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, roofing, and other related trades.
Duties
The selectee performs a variety of duties within the full spectrum of maintenance activities, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, janitorial, grounds keeping, buildings, roads, trails and fence repair. Performs trail maintenance on walkways and trails (paved and unpaved) and performs construction and repair work on park's boundary fence. Performs grounds maintenance duties including mowing, fertilizing, and watering lawns, and trimming trees and hedges. Employee picks up trash, cleans restrooms and public use buildings, and performs other janitorial work as needed. Uses common tools to perform a variety of basic repairs and maintenance, plus operates small gas and electric power tools such as disc grinders, sanders, saws, post augers, riding and push-type mowers, weed trimmers, sweepers, vacuums, floor polishers and other janitorial equipment. Employee is required to operate motor vehicles and must possess a valid state driver's license. For routine maintenance and repair jobs, the incumbent works independently based on oral or written guidance from the supervisor. He/She may also assist higher-graded employees with more complex building maintenance, road repair projects and other special projects. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, often under adverse weather conditions. Work requires lifting and moving heavy items, frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions and may involve some climbing. Employee also completes daily work reports.

SCREEN OUT: Perform work at the highest level in at least TWO of the following major trades of carpentry, painting, roofing, plumbing, electrical,
masonry, cement finishing, or other related occupations. Have knowledge of building trades, practices/standards, and building codes. Have
been responsible for performing basic tests and measurements, and for selecting tools, to carry out work with little or no checks during progress.
Have performed repairs to buildings and quarters and in constructing, installing, repairing and replacing items such as doors, shelves, supply
racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets; paints various types of structures, interior and exterior metal, and wood and
masonry surfaces, wooden trim and new and old cabinets; perform plumbing tasks such as replacing fittings, fixtures, and faucet washers; patch
and repair roofs, replace light switches and house fixtures; build and set forms on projects such as sidewalks and steps involving only the setting
of forms in straight lines, mix, pour, spread, and level cement and concrete in preparation for final finishing; monitor wastewater and water
treatment equipment and gauges in accordance with a prescribed schedule and performs, routine tests. Have performed assigned tasks
independently, with no technical assistance. Finished work is checked for adequacy by supervisor.
