The position is located in the Primary Care clinic, Fort Yuma Service Unit, Winterhaven, CA., and performs as a receptionist, records maintenance, a variety of clerical duties associated with ambulatory care. The incumbent will serve as the primary source of contact for the Primary Care staff and a member of the medical home team. Position reports to Chief Nurse Executive.
Duties
Maintains various registers such as Diabetes, Immunization, and other health conditions as needed by the medical home team.
Notifies patients via telephone and/or in writing of missed clinic appointments and other needs as guided by the medical home team.
Assist with preparing reports and secures completion of report on time. Forwards completed reports to supervisor or medical home team approval.
Assist with maintaining equipment and supply orders and works with designated staff, Property and Supply, Maintenance Department, or Administration at Fort Yuma Service Unit.
Types and reproduces special notices, work sheets, and related educational material used by the Primary Care clinic. Maintains and keeps current various IHS and Primary Care manuals.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Schedule and coordinate patient appointments using computerized records, maintain patient confidentiality, prepare for clinic visits for each business day, explain policy / procedure to patient , prepare correspondence, answer telephones, refer call to appropriate receiver. OR
Education: Successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, or university. Transcripts must be submitted. OR
Combination of education and specialized experience: Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify. Transcripts must be submitted
GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Scheduling appointments, capturing patient demographics, insurance capture, pre-registration and clinic cancellation processes; schedule various patient appointments in multiple systems; performs a variety of receptionist, clerical, and record-keeping duties and procedures in the patient appointment services; schedules initial and follow-up appointments and missed appointments. Knowledge of medical terminology. Receives and greets visitors and telephone callers at the call center; determines the nature of the call or visit and provides detailed information to individuals; obtain necessary information to determine primary need or area of interest; refers patients with perceived emergencies to proper clinic. Administrative duties include ordering supplies.
Typing Proficiency: Must meet typing proficiency by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates or by self-certifying proficiency. Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
