As a Supervisory Patent Examiner (SPE) Trainer, you will provide training to an assigned group of new patent examiners in technical, legal, and patent examining methods, practices, and procedures. The best qualified applicants will demonstrate the competencies described below, including experience in developing and teaching others, and will bring enthusiasm and fresh insight from their own experience as a primary examiner in a Technology Center.

Qualifications
You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. Specialized Experienceis experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-14.
Specialized experience for this position includes evaluating and approving patent applications as the Primary Examiner and providing authoritative source of consultation regarding patent examining.
For GS-15:
Applicants must have one year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of such experience may include evaluating and approving patent applications as the Primary Examiner and providing authoritative source of consultation regarding patent examining.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.
