This Pipefitter Leader position is in Facility Management at the VA Maine Healthcare System located at the Togus location. This position is full time at 40 hours per week.
Duties
This Pipefitter Leader position serves as Work Leader for all of the Pipefitters/Plumbers in accomplishing all labor and work. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Leads the pipefitters/plumbers while equipment is installed, maintained, or repaired. Such equipment will include sinks, bathtubs, showers, water closets, urinals, drinking fountains, garbage disposals, dish washing machines, water heaters, hydrants, pumps, lavatories, stoves, air compression equipment, etc.
Serves as the work lead to provide drain cleaning and sewer blockage clearing services.
Oversees/conducts Backflow Preventor (BFP) testing certification and repairs.
Works along with other employees and sets pace performing non-supervisory work of the same kind and level that is done by the group leader.
Oversees the scheduling of work to keep everyone in work crews busy.
Answers workers questions regarding procedures, policies, and written instruction/directives (e.g., technical orders).
Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees.
Serves as the employee responsible for and performing a variety of duties involved in the maintenance of buildings and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.
Work Schedule: Full Time Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Frequently works from ladders, scaffold, and platforms or in cramped, awkward, and hard-to-reach places. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Equipment operation requires heavy physical effort in constantly moving arms and legs to manipulate controls; considerable strain can be caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Work also requires light physical effort when, coupling and uncoupling towed equipment and lifting and handling items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in cold, damp, drafty and hot areas in varying weather conditions. Frequently exposed to dust, dirt, shocks, fumes, mud, water, and noise. Subject to cuts and bruises and occasionally to, the possibility of broken bones in falls from ladders and scaffolds. Injuries may occur in lifting heavy material or equipment.
