This position is located in the Department of Veteran Affairs, Salem VA Medical Center in Salem, VA. The primary purpose of this position is to arrange travel and provide travel administrative duties for Fiscal Service.
Duties

Serves as the travel liaison for contact with other Medical Centers, VA Central Office, and non-VA personnel, as necessary.
Provides prospective travelers with the availability of various modes of travel and accommodations, while ensuring that all applicable government regulations and cost savings procedures are followed.
Ensures that all travel advances are not in excess of current VA Policy.
Makes decisions required to prepare orders, arrange itineraries, prepare government transportation requests, lodging requests, determines travel costs, determines per diem cost and subsistence expense.
Arranges, coordinates, and prepares authorizations for travel by taxi and other hired vehicles.
Maintains information for and prepares budgetary and statistical reports.
Performs work of a general office support nature that encompasses a variety of different duties and responsibilities.
Performs administrative and clerical procedures to support a variety of office functions.
All other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:45 to 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, you must meet one of the following:
Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Transportation Assistant, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience applying transportation/travel regulations and practices to perform a wide variety of administrative support in the travel department; processing request for travel reimbursement; determining eligibility for programs and/or services; reviewing requests; and using office automation software to enter and retrieve data, prepare documents, etc. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~
Education: Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work may require some physical effort, such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting. There are no special physical demands.
