You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST of NMRTC NEW ENGLAND RI.
Duties
You will perform industrial hygiene inspections, surveys and evaluations.
You will detect violations of published health standards (e.g. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
You will present oral briefs.
You will be conducting investigations and surveys at a wide range of industrial complexes.
You will evaluate proposed new work processes and/or materials and or recommend measures to minimize health hazards.
You will devise a variety of control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, change in work procedures, isolation, education, personal protective devices.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
GS-12
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices carrying of an industrial hygiene program.
Experience investigating health problems to determine probable cause and recommend measures to minimize health hazards.
Experience devising control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, change in work procedures, isolation, education and personal protective devices and planning and carrying out industrial hygiene inspections and surveys.
GS-11
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices carrying out all industrial hygiene programs.
Experience analyzing and evaluating occupational health hazards to include those for which the nature and extent of hazards is not completely understood.
Experience assisting and devising control measures for ventilation, shielding, material, substitution.
Experience drafting industrial hygiene policy and guidance for occupational health and safety professionals.

Education
Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
- A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
- A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
- Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH).
Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
In lieu of specialized experience for the GS-11 grade level, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
