Duties

Serve as an Information Technology Specialist responsible for supporting U.S. Customs Border Protection's (CBP), mission by implementing and maintaining various Information Technology (IT) application software components. This position starts at a salary of $99,200.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $128,956.00 (GS-12, Step 10) with promotion potential to $128,956 (GS-13 Step 10). Be responsible for the discovery, development, and implementation of new and innovative products designed to increase efficiency, streamline mission processes, promote transparency, and strengthen CBP operations. Typical duties will include: Coordinating with business owners, internal and external stakeholders, and the application team to interpret, compose, and validate functional (i.e., business) requirements, and translate them into technical requirements. Coordinating the development of new and innovative methods for software design, development, testing and implementation. Working as a liaison between the application development team and various external teams and various external teams; negotiating emerging issues and changes in project requirements. Evaluating the feasibility of proposed new systems development projects and integration into existing systems. Basic Requirement - Individuals must have experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. This experience does not have to be related to Information Technology. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Along with the four competencies listed above you must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience described below to qualify based on experience. Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Working with stakeholders and development teams to test applications, assuring software and systems quality and functionality. Ensuring that software designs comply with regulatory requirements and are consistent with the current and planned agency-wide infrastructure and data environments. Ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of all IT services.
