Duties

The Peer Support Program is comprised of various trained department employees. The program functions with the purpose of serving others in their times of need. The Peer Support Program operates under the auspices of the Howard C. Liebengood Center for Wellness (LCW), which is a USCP office that offers wellness resources, peer support and USCP Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services to all USCP employees.The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for working with employees (in a one-on-one or group capacity) to offer support and resources in collaboration with the LCW. The Peer Support Specialist will be activated to assist employees when a traumatic or critical incident occurs in the workplace and/or in their personal lives. This support may occur as a result of vehicle accidents with injuries to an employee or others, active threats, line of duty death, or serious injury. Peer Support Specialists may also be deployed in support of other agencies during or after an active threat situation. Peer Support Specialists perform additional follow-up communications through a variety of methods, to ensure that everyone connected to the traumatic or critical incident receives appropriate support.Follows the direction of the Peer Support Team Leader and Peer Support Commander. Using the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) model, Peer Support Specialists provide critical incident stress debriefings and defusings. Works with the LCW staff to ensure referrals for follow up care are accomplished. Attends regularly scheduled stress mitigation check-ins with the USCP EAP, or as directed by the Peer Support Team Leader/Peer Support Commander. Participates in all in-service trainings and all other activities as directed. Multiple vacancies exist. The number of Peer Support Specialist positions will be determined by the needs of the Department. The selection list will be active for a period of one (1) year from the date of approval of the selection memorandum unless an applicant withdraws his/her application in writing through the Office of Human Resources (OHR).

Qualifications

All applicants must meet the following eligibility factors in order to be considered for the position of Peer Support Specialist Collateral:1. Must be a current sworn USCP employee and have attained the rank of Private with Training and completed your USCP probationary period by the closing date of this announcement.2. Must not be in a leave restriction status as of the selection date.3. Must have completed the Assisting Individuals in Crisis & Group Crisis Intervention Course, certified by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, Inc. Certificate must be included with application.
