This position is part of the Security and Intelligent Documents,Government Publishing Office inWashington , District of Columbia.
Duties
Maintains ledger of numbered passports and cartons shipped.
Security wraps (tapes) each carton with re-enforced tape, and hand writes passport numbers on the labels.
Loads cartons onto skids and then bands and transports skids by hand operated power truck to the elevator and to the loading dock.
Writes receipts and billing packing for each load shipped.
Stacks empty cartons into carton feeder of machine and re-stacks when problems arise with carton feeder.
Fills and/or refills label feeder with large spool or roll of labels.
Checks to ensure that passport numbers correspond with labels.
Occasionally uses power trucks to transport skids.
Adjusts speed by turning the rate control knob, positions label on and adjusts height of labeler by moving electronic sensors and switches on and off the label feeder.
Requirements
- You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain Security clearance.
- Physical - Effort: Moderate effort is required in physical activity for reaching, bending, picking up cartons weighing up to 35 pounds.
- Physical - Effort: Moderately heavy physical effort is required in operating hand trucks and handling skids. The work requires constant standing and/or walking.
- Physical - Effort: The work requires constant standing and/or walking.
- Working Conditions: The work is performed in a production environment, which is well-lighted, heated, and ventilated. Worked is performed around noisy machines with moving parts.
- Working Conditions: Care must be taken when moving materials through work areas to avoid material/equipment damage or bodily injuries.
- Selectee must be able to successfully pass pre-employment requirements prior to appointment.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Printing Plant Worker (Bindery).

Ability to do the work of a Printing Plant Worker (Bindery), KX-4402-4, without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT/JOB ELEMENT #1), to be considered for this position. Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Printing Plant Worker (Bindery), KX-4402-4. These duties require knowledge and technical skills to follow instructions which include maintaining accurate records; reading and writing simple arithmetic calculations; working on machines to do simple adjustments using switches and knobs; and skill in operating hand operated power trucks.
