This full-time position is located in the Mid America Program Service Center, Disability Processing Branch, 601 E 12th St., Kansas City, MO 64106. This position is being filled on a temporary basis. The full performance level of this position is GS-11.

Duties

You may also view the full position description on the Agency intranet at the following link: PD Search At the full performance level, the Social Insurance Specialist (Disability) Reviews and takes action on Title II and XVI disability claims submitted within the initial claims, appeals and continuing disability review CDR processes. Serves as a Processing Center disability resource person on medical and non-medical issues on a wide range of disability claims at all levels of appeals. Takes action on favorable disability administrative law judge appeals council and court case decisions.

Qualifications

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. GS-11: 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-9 level or above that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include demonstrating the knowledge of disability programs in order to make recommendations on the resumption or continuance of benefit payments based on the beneficiary's income, self-employment, and medical condition; including the review of continuing medical disability, evaluating income related work expenses, work subsidies, and other return to work-related factors. Applicants must also meet the following to qualify for this position: Meet and deal ability is required. By the closing date of the announcement, candidates who have not occupied SSA positions for which meet-and-deal ability is required as a selective placement factor MUST upload a completed Certification of Meet and Deal Ability form. In addition to the minimum qualifications, applicants must be eligible under ICTAP or Certain Military Spouses

Education

GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, or LL.M. in a field that is directly related to the position.

Combining Education and Experience:Experience and education as described above may be combined to meet the minimum qualification requirements. Experience and education will be computed as percentages of the overall requirements and must equal to 100 percent when combined. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11.

Note: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school you attended has determined to represent one year of study. If this information cannot be obtained from your school, we will consider 18 semester/27 quarter hours to be equal to one year of full-time study. If selected, you may be required to provide your official college transcripts prior to the effective date of the personnel action placing you into the new position.
