The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Smithsonian Institution, Office of Protection Services. The Office of Protection Services is responsible for overseeing, a large museum/complex law enforcement and security program and leading and providing protection throughout the Smithsonian Institution.

Duties
The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for purchasing and financial processing, supporting organizational management and personnel in a wide range of other management areas.

Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience 1) Assisting in the purchase and procurement of services, products, supplies and/or equipment, 2) Using automated systems and software to track services and requests, 3) Providing customer service to internal and external stakeholders via written and oral communication, and 4) Communicating with vendors, staff, and managers, resolving delay in delivery schedules, difference in price or quantity, and equitable price adjustments. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week. Or Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable at this grade level covered by this standard for the substitution of the 1 year of specialized experience, however, graduate education may be a substitution of the 1 year of specialized experience if the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
