You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BLS/ HAZMAT TECH) in the FIRE PROTECTION DIVISION of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.
Duties
You will perform structural firefighting and rescue duties in buildings, housing units, or confined spaces to eliminate and control fires.
You will perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or automatic external defibrillation (AED) during respiratory and cardiac emergencies.
You will employ hazardous materials response procedures and equipment to mitigate hazardous materials incidents.
You will direct the operation of firefighting equipment (e.g., pumps, turrets, extended waterways, ground sweep nozzles).

- Employee is required to be DoD certified Firefighter I and II, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Driver Operator Pumper and National Registry EMT-BLS.
- Employee must have certifications for HAZMAT awareness, operations and technician and HAZMAT incident command.
- This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
- Employee is required to work a 72-hour week which includes weekends and holidays.
- Employee is subject to mandatory overtime and recall and requires to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Detecting fire hazards (potential and immediate) and determining corrective action; 2) Operating firefighting vehicles and equipment in accordance with principles of hydraulics and firefighting techniques; 3) Providing emergency assistance (first aid, HAZMAT, etc.) in accordance with safety standards and regulations; 4) Applying the theory of fire propagation and progression to reduce fire hazards and/or combat fires; 5) Leading a crew of firefighters (i.e. directing drills, assigning work, etc.). NOTE: Experience must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for this position.
Firefighters Certifications for Whidbey Island/ WA:This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, and HAZMAT Awareness, Operations, Technician, and HAZMAT Incident Command (under NFPA standards adopted by DoD), Driver Operator Pumper, and possess National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). These firefighter certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
