You will serve as an Environmental Protection Specialist in the Environmental Division, Public Works Department of NAVFAC SE. Duties

You will store, maintain, dispose, label, and mark hazardous materials and regulated wastes. You will characterize regulated wastes as hazardous waste, nonhazardous waste, universal waste, regulated solid wastes and hazardous materials. You will collect and maintain representative waste samples as a part of a waste sampling plan.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current forklift operator license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require occasional travel from normal duty station. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
  • You will be required to successfully complete an annual occupational health physical examination and an annual respirator fit test.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current DOT Transportation of Hazardous Materials/Wastes program certification.
  • You will be required to be OSHA Respirator Program Qualified.
  • You will be required to participate in the Medical Surveillance Program.
  • You will be required to wear a Level A suit and a self-contained breathing apparatus for up to 60 minutes at a time is required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Storing, maintaining, disposing, labeling and marking hazardous materials and regulated wastes; 2) Characterizing regulated wastes as hazardous waste, nonhazardous waste, universal waste, regulated solid wastes and hazardous materials; 3) Collecting and maintaining representative waste samples as a part of a waste sampling plan; 4) Responding to hazardous substance spills or releases. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

OR

A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
