You will serve as a an Engineer in the Equipment Branch of the Production Facility and Equipment Management Division at PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Duties

You will plan, administer, coordinate, and manage a wide-range of plant equipment improvement projects for both nuclear and nonnuclear facilities including repair, new construction, renovation, and demolition. You will plan/arrange and chair meetings with necessary individuals from various activities to coordinate efforts, provide/gather information and resolve problems to eliminate roadblocks. You will be responsible for ensuring project development, execution, and quality in both nuclear and nonnuclear facilities plant equipment projects. You will act as the representative on Shipyard Industrial Plant Equipment projects. You will conduct site visits to verify the validity and scope of plant equipment/facility requests. You will review engineering designs prior to work execution to ensure the designs meet the requirements of PHNS and IMF. You will ensure that projects assigned have necessary support prior to and during execution to preclude delays to work and minimize adverse impact to Shipyard operations.

Qualifications

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer developing solutions by applying knowledge of engineering principles, theories, concepts, and practices applicable to assist with engineering investigations and/or design work for the improvement of facilities, industrial equipment, or utility system design, construction, operation, or maintenance (e.g. piping, valves, pumps. electrical components, substations, transformers, power outlets, switch gear, or circuits). GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer assisting with developing solutions to engineering problems by applying knowledge of engineering principles, theories, concepts, and practices for the improvement of design, construction, operation, or maintenance of facilities or buildings, industrial equipment, or utility systems (e.g. piping, valves, pumps. electrical components, substations, transformers, power outlets, switch gear, or circuits). Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
