This temporary position is located at Crownpoint Healthcare Facility, Division of Administrative Services, Facility Management Branch, Crownpoint, NM. Incumbent performs work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices; Plumbing, Carpentry, Equipment Repair Painting, and Electrical. Incumbent reports to the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor or Facility Manager.
Duties
Removes, replaces, tightens, splices, solders and insulates defective wiring, controls equipment and fixtures such as; broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose fittings and connections, damaged light fixtures.
Installs or rearrange light fixtures, switches, and outlets by following schematic drawings that provide the exact work specifications, i.e., the location where the electrical wiring is to be hooked onto the installed system, the type, size, and measurement of wire, conduit, couplings and fittings to use, and the type and placement of the electrical device to be installed.
Makes repairs and adjustments to air conditioning systems and boilers within the Service Unit. This encompasses replacement of gaskets, replacing valves in pumps, repairing and replacing boiler piping, repair of boiler return pumps, safety valves, pneumatic controls, and steam pumps.
Performs preventive maintenance work and inspection on all or most of the equipment repaired and serviced. Maintains records of all work done. Requisitions parts and materials, maintains records of purchase and other transitions.
Installs plumbing equipment such as sinks, lavatories, bathtub, showers and hot water heaters. Modifies and repair water and waste disposal systems by cleaning stoppages in sewer lines, drain pipes and fixtures.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
WG-9 Experience and training that included following simple oral or written instructions and/or work orders; performing maintenance mechanic duties, including use and apply standard building techniques, practices, and codes, read and understand blueprints, sketches and schematics, read and understand work orders in order to complete assigned work, use and maintain pneumatic hand tools, use and maintain shop tools, drill press, band saw, table saw, etc., follow manufacturer's instructions for use of power tools, follow safety manuals on operation of tools and equipment, follow safety guidelines working with oils and lubricants, working with inert gases and solvents, acids, adhesives, sealant, paints, oils and lubricants while performing maintenance tasks, respond to frequent changes in instructions, with respect to the team, project and/or task.
Ability to motivate, train and works effectively with subordinates who have a variety of background and training.
Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within in set limits of cost and time.
Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively.
Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to work.
Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day work operations.
Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.
Physical Requirements: The work may require continual standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching above the head, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Occasionally works in awkward and cramped conditions when making repairs.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside the facility and occasionally in inclement weather. Work is usually dirty, dusty and greasy. Incumbent may perform work where bad smelling fumes are present. Incumbent has frequent exposure to possibility of cuts, bruises, electrical shock, chemical irritations and broken bones while working around machinery and equipment.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
