The employee will serve as a Motor Vehicle Operator-Laundry Worker at the Northport VA Medical Center, in Northport, NY. The employee is responsible for the pick-up and delivery of clean and soiled laundry throughout the medical center.

Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Operate and maintain various powered industrial vehicles. Maintain vehicle in a neat clean and orderly manner. Perform routine safety and maintenance checks on the vehicle. Understand how to load supply carts, vehicles or pallets to ensure safety and most efficient process. Feed, fold and sort clean and soiled linen. Push clean and soiled linen carts within a laundry facility. Understand how to load supply carts, vehicles or pallets to ensure safety and most efficient process. Prepare vehicle for daily usage in order to support the mission requirements. Ensure all items are packaged or palletized correctly to prevent damage. Follow oral instruction from dispatcher and/or supervisor pertaining to transporting, destination, cargo, deadlines and any additional/special instruction. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized. DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: This position requires a current, valid state driver's license. Do not upload a copy of your license at this time. If an interview is requested, you may be required to provide a copy of your current, valid, and unrestricted state driver's license. Related experience includes work performing such tasks as: picking up and dropping off clean and soiled linen throughout medical center; loading and unloading linen cart; delivering linen to units; delivering employee uniforms to designated areas; operating station vehicle; performing operator maintenance such as tightening and loosening connections, checking oil, battery and cooling systems; and cleaning and disinfecting vehicle as required. (This experience must be documented on your resume.) PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee must take into consideration the physical limitations of the young adult, middle adult and the geriatric patient when performing all assigned responsibilities. Light physical effort tis required in reaching, bending, climbing and moving hands, arms and legs while operating the motor vehicle. Moderate physical effort is required in the frequent handling of clean and soiled linen. The employee is required to push heavy carts and lift laundry bags in excess of 50 pounds. WORK CONDITIONS: Complicating factors which may occur when dealing with the young adult, middle adult and the geriatric patient must be fully realized and appropriately addressed. These issues may include communicative disorders, severe cognitive disorders, unique emotional/behavioral reactions, and various physical limitations. The employee's work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather and is subject to a considerably changing environment. While working inside, the employee may be subject to heat, cold, foul odors, noise and humidity. The employee may be required to wear protective clothing such as gloves and gowns when handling or sorting contaminated linen. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.
