You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the Mission Support Division, code 125100 of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY.

Duties

You will prepare and present Safety and Occupational Health education and training programs. You will conduct formal inspections of NRL facilities to identify and evaluate workplace hazards and make recommendations for their abatement. You will follow up on deficiencies and track corrective actions to completion. You will participate in the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of a comprehensive Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) program. You will create and update current NRL programs. You will evaluate operational requirements involving hazardous materials and the application of SOH standards that require protective measures affecting the timeliness of mission accomplishments.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Demonstrated experience identifying, evaluating, and controlling a wide variety of research and industrial hazards related to the full range of work operations. A comprehensive knowledge of regulations, standards, procedures, methods, and techniques applicable to a broad range of safety and occupational health duties in a number of specific areas of SOH Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NO-02 (GS-05/10) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing some or all of the following duties: 1) Planning and organizing safety and occupational health programs for an organization; 2) Applying and analyzing safety and occupational health policies and regulations; 3) Performing inspections or surveys of workplaces or processes to identify and evaluate workplace hazards and 4) Identifying, preparing and administrating training needs. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
  • A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
or
  • I have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
or
  • LL.M. degree if related
or
  • A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
