About the Position: The incumbent of this position serves as Public Safety Dispatcher (Office Automation) for the US Army Installation Management Command, in the Directorate of Emergency Services Fire Protection and Prevention Division Communications Branch in Fort Carson Colorado.

Duties

Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of emergency calls, to include installation fire, police, ambulance service, emergency medical dispatch, and Integrated Commercial Intrusion Detection System (ICIDS). Provides emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the Priority Dispatch Emergency Medical Dispatcher system. Identifies the nature of emergency, level of response required, and provides this and any additional information to the responding units. Employee initiates an immediate, appropriate emergency response and provides the caller with advanced life support. Monitors and logs status and availability of police, fire and medical first responders to assure appropriate response are made. Maintains an accurate status of emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-appointment hearing test.
  • Position is subject to shift work. The incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Incumbent is required to work (Mission Essential) regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON) or installation closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • Able to obtain and maintain, within 6 months of employment, a Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC) Level S Certification.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current DoD Telecommunicator I and II (or equivalent), DoD Hazmat Awareness, Emergency police Dispatch, Emergency Fire Dispatch, and Emergency Medical Dispatch certifications within 6 months of employment.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in advanced Medical and Fire Priority Dispatch System. The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally.
  • The incumbent must maintain an overall compliance score of 90 percent or better by the Advances Quality Assurance (AQUA) software.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. Positions may require incumbent undergo periodic random drug testing.
  • Incumbent must sign DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Positions identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program) and must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Able to obtain and maintain, within 6 months of employment, a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY)/Travel may be required 5% of the time.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) operating automation, emergency dispatching, and communications equipment; AND (2) questioning callers to determine problems and nature of calls to respond with appropriate emergency personnel/equipment; AND (3) accomplishing several tasks at one time such as operating radios, telephones, and typing; AND (4) communicating effectively with police, fire, or medical personnel during emergencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
