About the Position: This position serves a Public Safety Dispatcher for the Fort Carson Directorate of Emergency Services, providing emergency police, fire, and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. A Retention Incentive may be authorized for this position. A Relocation Incentive may be authorized for this position.

Duties

Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls, to include installation fire, police, ambulance service, emergency medical dispatch, and ICIDS. Provides emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the Priority Dispatch EMD system. Monitors and logs status and availability of police, fire and medical first responders to assure an appropriate response are made. Refers non-emergency callers to appropriate civilian and governmental agencies. Maintains reports and retrieves needed statistical information using the National Fire Incident Reporting System(s) (NFIRS).

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a favorable National Agency Check with inquiries (NACI).
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully complete a pre-appointment hearing test.
  • Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON) or installation closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • Incumbent must have the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current DoD Tele communicator I and II (or equivalent), DoD Hazmat Awareness, Emergency police Dispatch, Emergency Fire Dispatch, and Emergency Medical Dispatch Able to obtain
  • CONT - and maintain, within 6 months of employment, a Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC) Level S Certification.
  • Incumbent is required to possess and maintain certification in advanced Medical and Fire Priority Dispatch System.
  • The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally.
  • The incumbent must maintain an overall compliance score of 90 percent or better by the Advances Quality Assurance (AQUA) software.
  • Position is subject to rotating shift work.
  • The incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
