The primary purpose of this position is: To perform duties as a base communications focal point specialist with responsibilities for operating the communication's Communications Focal Point (CFP).

Administers base information systems. Provides a central communications squadron point of contact. Provides assistance to customers and controls maintenance operations. Maintains historical database of all reported problems, solutions, and events associated therewith with resolutions.

  • Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement.
  • Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
  • A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirements for the Information Technology (IT) Management Series, GS-2210 (Alternate A). https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/2200/information-technology-it-management-series-2210-alternative-a/ EDUCATION: master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes; experience with applying LAN/WAN principles and practices sufficient to troubleshoot and maintain the stability of communication lines and equipment. Interpret LAN/WAN standards and equipment sufficient to install, configure, and troubleshoot LAN and WAN components such as routers, hubs, switches, and servers. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing, networking, and maintenance standards, policies, and techniques. 2. Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces. 3. Knowledge of data content and output options for a variety of administrative, scientific and/or technical program applications that are processed on any of several multi-program operating systems. 4. Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems. 5. Knowledge and skill to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, devise solutions to problems, and/or identify changes and trends. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 6. Knowledge of MOC and logistics (Maintenance and Supply) support procedures. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
