This position is located in the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) at the Miami VA Health Care System. The Prosthetics Clerk performs a variety of clerical duties in support of the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Section determining eligibility, preparing requisitions and purchasing items. There are two (2) positions in Miami, Florida and one (1) position in Tamarac, Florida.
Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to:
Validates National Prosthetics Patient Database (NPPD) data by ensuring that proper codes are attached, along with correct costing data, vendor demographics to ensure line items are accurate on the patient record and purchase order.
Operates the Prosthetics software package to maintain detailed and accurate accounting of all actions taken for Veterans and documents their records to show all items and services provided.
Responsible for using the prosthetics inventory package (PIP) when issuing items and meeting the 30-days or less of inventory goal including adherence to First-In-First-Out (FIFO) standard.
Reviews incoming shipments for correct quantities, items, and initiates actions to correct deficiencies.
Initiates and carries out a cast array of advisory and technical duties.
Dispense off the shelf inventory items to patients and stock post the items to the patients' record.
Assemble equipment (basic assemble) needing to be delivered to specialty services i.e walker, wheelchairs, bathroom equipment.
Stock shelves and is involved with daily, weekly, monthly inventory counts.
Verifies prescription for equipment/appliance has been issued through the prosthetic package before issuing equipment;
Tracks issued equipment in the patients' prosthetic transaction record in support of the care and treatment given to patients such as receiving walk ins.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, you must meet one of the following:Experience:
You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Prosthetics Clerk, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes utilizing various computer programs including Microsoft applications to interpret and input data; performing word processing/typing tasks; answering phone calls and assisting with inquires; screening and directing patients to the appropriate staff member; ordering supplies and maintaining records; and providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~
Education: Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. Physical Requirements: Physical Requirements: : The work is somewhat sedentary but requires some physical effort such as walking, standing, bending and carrying boxes or other inventory items. Duties involve extended periods of working at computer terminal; some climbing is associated with stocking items in storage areas. Incumbent must be able to lift or carry-items weighing up to 50 pounds. There are no special physical demands.
???????Work Environment: Performs work in an office setting involving everyday risks or discomforts. May visit clinics, units and stock rooms. The work is performed in a medical center with the possibility of coming into contact with ill or diseased patients. May handle equipment returned from patients with contagious diseases. Normal safety precautions are required.
