Duties
As a Health Communications Specialist, you will:
Develop, implement, and manage national communication and marketing programs, projects, and initiatives for various audiences
Guide the development, testing, and disseminating scientific information and audience-based products, tools, and messages (i.e., via written, electronic, and audiovisual formats)
Ensure products are targeted or tailored for diverse audiences (for example, messages and materials address cultural and socioeconomic challenges to effective communication and consider the diverse interests, needs, concerns, and priorities of population segments)
Develop and manage contracts and task orders and the required documentation that support the health communication programs and projects
Serve as a technical resource to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate translation and dissemination of scientific information
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with health officials, partners, and community representatives

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience with emergency response activities such as assisting with the planning or implementation of public health communication and marketing programs and campaigns at either federal, state, tribal, local, and/or territorial government organizations, such as health departments or similar non-governmental or private sector organizations.
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience with emergency response activities such as planning, evaluating or implementing major public health communication and marketing programs and campaigns at either federal, state, tribal, local, and/or territorial government organizations, such as health departments or similar non-governmental or private sector organizations.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Promotion potential: Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your meeting qualifications and time-in-grade requirements, demonstrated ability to perform the higher-level duties, the continuing need for the higher-level duties, and administrative approval. Promotion to the next grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.
Education
