This position is located in the Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD). GHSD leads U.S. diplomatic engagement and supports programmatic efficiency to strengthen the global health security architecture and prevent, detect, control, and respond to infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
Duties
Drafts, edits, and clears media notes, talking points, press guidance, and responses to media inquiries.
Coordinates press events for senior GHSD officials. Liaises with the State Department's Bureau of Public Affairs to create and pursue speaking opportunities that reach a large number of targeted audiences.
Develops communication plans by considering such items as specific topics or aspects to emphasize, identifying the most effective media to use in communicating with intended audiences.
Coordinates with management and other program specialists to assist with interpreting policy and obtaining the scientific program information and policies for use in writing blogs, news releases, articles, statements, and other communications.
Develops and maintains relationships within GHSD, the Department and external stakeholders.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all the qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement.
Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience drafting press guidance and other public affairs materials for delivery.
Experience preparing briefing materials and talking points for senior officials.
Experience using appropriate tact and discretion to convey information to media, the public, and senior officials verbally.
There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-12 position.
