This position is located in the Fitness/Sports Branch of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. The function of this position is to provide maximum opportunities for participation in a well-rounded program of planned recreational sports and Aquatics designed to enhance the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of all authorized patrons.
Duties
Promotes and coordinates maximum participation in recreational sports programs on a year-round basis, serving active-duty military personnel. Evaluates recreational sports programs, which will meet participant interests and needs in as many varieties of the individual/dual sports, intramural sports, extramural sports, club sports and special events. Determines which sports will be conducted, and what facilities, personnel, and supplies that are required. Promotes, organizes and directs intramural and extramural programs to coincide with scheduled higher level tournaments for the same sport.
The incumbent oversees the summer operations, programs and staff at the Bayside Pool and Oasis Pool.
Attends meetings with Command, recreational sports representatives, contributing suggestions for determining sports interests and participating in the evaluation of the sports program by analyzing participation, attendance, morale of personnel during scheduled play, and level of competition, etc.
Following established guidelines, the incumbent is responsible for scheduling all competition for intramural play. Determines winners and runners-up, team, individuals, and sportsmanship. Assists in selecting sports personnel for extramural (varsity) teams to represent the base at various higher levels of competition.
Supervises use of all Athletic Facilities and equipment for scheduled play and practices. Prepares Marketing Requests, submits to Marketing Office, and disseminates publicity material on scheduled recreational sports programs through available printed media and through discussions with Command and recreation sports Representatives. Designs and maintains statistical records on teams and individuals' performance in all sports. Prepares and submits required documentation covering all aspects of the sports program.
Leads ball field maintenance worker in a variety of skills and duties related to the sports program. Ensures equality in determining qualifications, selections, assignments, training, promotions, details, discipline, and awards for employees, and carries out EEO policies and promulgates these policies to subordinates.
Prepares budget requirements and submits for approval. Recommends additional budget requirements for new recreational sports programs that are cost effective and assures that program emphasis is on the activities most appropriate to the interests of the population served.
Continuously evaluates all officials assigned to the Recreational Sports Program to maintain optimum professionalism and to provide guidance. If necessary, conducts training of sports officials for scheduled sports through clinics and conferences, and evaluates performance. Prepares and submits required documents covering performance in the sports program. Drafts and prepares letters, memoranda, and notices.
Arranges and conducts clinics for all intramural sports. Provides safety training to athletes prior to each season sport. Plans, schedules, and organizes sports banquets, including formal invitations, entertainment, and arrangements. Procures trophies, plaques, medals, and other awards; maintains statistical records on both teams and individual performances in all sports at all levels.
Provides technical guidance and instruction to individual participants and groups of participants engaged in those activities for which the incumbent has technical expertise (i.e. softball, basketball, football, etc.).
Provides supervision for day to day operation of sports facilities.
Prepares requests for supplies and equipment grounds maintenance to meet recreational sports requirements.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Plans, develops, and maintains a military sports & aquatics/ recreational program for a large community of active duty military, dependents, retirees, and authorized civilians in an area where the climate and other conditions favor a strong sports & aquatics program.
Plans, coordinates and schedules recurring activities, special events and joint community undertakings to maximize use of facilities and resources consistent with the military mission.
Evaluates effectiveness of ongoing aquatics activities. Adapts and varies programs as necessary.
Enforces rigid safety regulations to ensure maximum protection of swimmers.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Education
A college degree with emphasis in recreation which demonstrates knowledge of the basic policies, goals, regulations, and procedures for the administration of recreational sports programs, OR related equivalent experience.
