About the Position: This position is located at the Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (RIA-JMTC). Serve as a Supervisor in the Hot Metals units exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations involving approximately 15 employees.
Duties
Supervise the duties and functions of trades and craft workers in a manufacturing environment.
Establish deadlines and priorities.
Explain work requirements, methods, and procedures.
Instruct employees on new work procedures.
Review work in progress, and on completion, for accuracy.
Coordinate work with other branches/directorates, as required, to ensure smooth operations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Subject to pre-employment and annual physical examination.
- This position requires handling of hazardous waste.
- This position requires initial and annual training.
- Employee is able to respond effectively to emergencies by familiarizing them with routine and emergency procedures, emergency equipment, and emergency systems, including where applicable procedures for shutdown of operations.
Qualifications
Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment Not To Exceed (NTE) 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.

The work of the position normally includes: ability to lead or supervise Pattern makers, Investment Casting Workers, Molders, and other trades and craft workers in a manufacturing environment in areas such as setting work schedules and establishing priorities, reviewing employee's work in progress or upon completion, to ensure work meets applicable standards; and planning work sequence to ensure work is completed by deadlines. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in a well- lighted, heated, and ventilated area. However, the supervisor will be required to visit work sites, where the supervisor will be subject to extreme high temperatures, noise, dirt, burns, cuts, bruises, and possible injuries. Will be required to wear safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, hearing protection, and possibility heat protective clothing.
