Duties

Joining Customs and Border Protection, Office of Information and Technology will allow you to use your expertise in Information Technology (IT) principles, concepts and methods to support IT systems and services. This position starts at a salary of $139,395.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $181,216.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $181,216 (GS-14 Step 10). In this Information Technology Specialist (Applications Software/Security) position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals. Typical work assignments include: ??????? Leading teams on the design, development and testing of large and complex programs that are mission critical or have a wide impact. Serving as the primary liaison between customers and vendors and IT management throughout the development process. Providing guidance in the application of standards, methods, and procedures for software testing. Providing expert technical advice, guidance and recommendations to senior management and other team members on critical and controversial IT issues.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Along with the four competencies listed above you must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience described below to qualify based on experience. Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Applying application software design and systems engineering theories, concepts and methods. Applying project management principles and methods, to be compliant with the OIT policies and procedures. Understanding of IT software concepts, standards, and methods. Providing expert advice and guidance on a wide range and variety of complex application software designs.
