This position is located at Whiteriver Service Unit under Medical Services, Dental Department, in Whiteriver, Arizona. The purpose of this position is to serve as a clinical specialist in Endodontics to provide dental service to the designated population in accordance with Indian Health Service policies

Duties

Diagnostic services, through the use of history, radiographs, examination, diagnostic models, and other appropriate tests. Responsible for the provision of specialty services in Endodontics to the patients of the Whiteriver Service Unit. Endodontic restoration of teeth having suffered severe and rampant caries, periodontal disease, and trauma to the oral cavity and supporting structures. Provides Emergency Services including the treatment of trauma, pain and infection. participate in the development and implementation of continuing education courses for the IHS dental program. provide technical guidance for the Service Unit dentists in the development and operation of direct and contract endodontic program

Qualifications

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Basic Requirements - Licensure Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (external link) (https://www.opm.gov/leaving/index.aspx?link=http://www.ada.org/en/jcnde/examinations/) (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (external link) (https://www.opm.gov/leaving/index.aspx?link=http://www.ada.org/JCNDE.aspx) (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Applicants who meet the above basic requirements qualify for the GS-11 grade level. Basic Requirements-Education- Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (external link) (https://www.opm.gov/leaving/index.aspx?link=http://www.ada.org/en/)(ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (external link) (https://www.opm.gov/leaving/index.aspx)link=http://www.ada.org/117.aspx) (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) (https://www.opm.gov/leaving/index.aspx?link=http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/)at the time the degree was obtained. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include Include Diagnostic services, through the use of history, radiographs, examination, diagnostic models, and other appropriate tests. Complex endodontic restoration of teeth having suffered severe and rampant caries, periodontal disease, Services performed may be with patients susceptible to, or having serious infections, marked drug sensitivities, compromised behavioral responses from emotional, developmental and physical stress, serious systemic or genetic diseases; limited control of physical faculties; higher than average morbidity and mortality rates, unusual oral tissue development and conditions; and degenerative conditions relating to extreme age. and trauma to the oral cavity and supporting structures. OR Additional Requirements for the GS-13 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the above Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete a 2-3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training. Medical Requirements Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
