This position is located at the Whiteriver Service Unit, located in Whiteriver, AZ. Serves as a staff Dentist responsible for examining, diagnosing, and treating commonly encountered dental diseases and dental health problems.
Duties
Makes oral and radiographic examination of the oral cavity and diagnosis of pathological or irregular conditions.
Practices prosthetic dentistry by studying patient's mouth to determine type of restoration required; taking oral impressions and bite registrations for crowns, bridges and dentures, trying temporary set-ups in patient's mouth and fitting and inserting the finished appliances.
May occasionally perform difficult oral surgery such as extraction of an impacted tooth where there is a complicating aspect, a difficult alveolectomy in connection with fitting dentures or other appliances or other difficult dental procedures.
Treats cases of rampant cavities in children, treats acute cases of cellulitis associated with dental pathology, treats diseases of salivary glands and ducts, performs muco-gingival surgery, and coordinates fluoridation monitoring.
Plans and executes community dental health programs for oral disease prevention and patient education. Many of the patients present actual or potential behavioral problems which require skills in patient management. Behavioral problems may occur in young patients.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S), GS-0680:
Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
FOR GS-11: Applicants who meet the above basic requirements qualify for the GS-11 grade level.
FOR GS-12: In addition to the above Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training.
Your resume must demonstrate at least two (2) years of professional dentistry experience and/or training. This experience is equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: The evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for denture to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics.

Completion of a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.
