This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Recruit Training Center, Facilities Engineering Division, Fire Protection Branch, Cape May, NJ.
Duties
You will perform firefighting and a variety of rescue/emergency response and fire prevention duties in the protection of personnel, property and equipment. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: - Serving as a fire-safety consultant to project managers and other management officials regarding fire protection features and requirements in construction and alteration projects- Providing advice and guidance to city and county fire marshals and fire departments with jurisdiction over geographic areas in which agency facilities are located, resolving conventional or precedence problems that may arise..- Scheduling and conducting evacuation drills. - Executing the TRACEN’s Fire Prevention program by overseeing and guiding Fire Wardens / Building Managers.- scheduling and conducts fire protection analyses and surveys- Conducting technical reviews of plans, specifications, and fire protection analyses for new construction and alteration projects.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position
- The applicant is subject to pre-appointment and random drug testing.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license
- Works rotating and floating shifts
- This is a 144 HR Fire Fighter Position
Qualifications
GS-08: At least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level is required. Examples of specialized experience include: developing, directing and administering a thorough and comprehensive fire fighting and fire prevention program; maintaining a variety of training and qualifications controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; rescue operations; detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; operation of fire communications equipment; developing, managing, controlling hazardous materials incidents response programs; developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention, or supervising, controlling and directing a fire station.
This position is designated as a key position. The position is clearly in the firefighter mission and requires a background in firefighting. Requires a valid State Class B operator license. There is a maximum age restriction for this position (37).
This position requires you to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (ProBoard) equivalent certifications: (Please note: All certifications must be uploaded at time of application.)
