The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for an Registered Nurse (Pain). The Registered Nurse (Pain) will function in Pain Medicine Service.

Duties

The Registered Nurse duties include, but are not limited to: Providing initial and ongoing assessment of patients to identify needs issues, care goals and appropriate resources necessary for pain management care. Assisting in invasive procedures including IV placement and medication administration. Administering prescribed pain management therapies accurately. Recognizing individual differences in behavior related to specific pain diagnosis and providing patient care accordingly. Documenting patient findings, assessments and care provided in patient's medical record. Assessing patients' neuromuscular status, vital signs, and return to PAR score. Providing discharge education and following up with post-discharge procedure phone calls. Actively communicating with health care providers and patients with regards to patient care and the best therapeutic interventions. Setting clinical care goals, short and long term, in collaboration with patients, provider(s), and family members. Managing Pain Outpatient Clinic, triaging clinic flow and patient phone calls, performing pain intake and presenting to attending physician. Assisting in tele-health pain management practice as needed. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position Financial Disclosure Report: Not required

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Exception to Licensure for Graduate Nurse Technicians. Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education, as a Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) on a temporary appointment under the authority of 38 U.S.C. § 7405(c)(2)(B). In all cases, GNTs must actively pursue and obtain required licensure within 120 days of appointment Preferred Experience: BSN 2-4 years Pain Medicine experience ICU, ED, or Interventional/Procedure Suite experience Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. Physical Requirements: Applicant must possess the ability to do the following: heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over; pulling, pushing and reaching above the shoulder; potentially long periods of walking, standing, kneeling and repeated bending. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
