The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Nurse Practitioner (Pain Medicine). The Nurse Practitioner (Pain Medicine) will function in Pain Medicine Service.

Duties

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the care of patients referred to the Pain Medicine Section and this may include patients in the inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and the provision of inpatient and outpatient consultations, e-consults, telehealth consults, and SCAN-ECHO consult. Evaluating and managing patients with a variety of complex medical, psychiatric, and chronic pain conditions by performing history and physical examinations. Formulating diagnoses, prescribing treatment modalities, and ordering diagnostic tests to determine the effectiveness of treatment modalities, all under physician oversight. Collaborating with a variety of services to coordinate care which includes communicating with referring physicians/practitioners both internal and external to the Cleveland VAMC. Collecting and synthesizing patient data utilizing critical thinking skills to formulate comprehensive patient plans of care. Completing inpatient, outpatient clinic, e-consult, telehealth and SCAN-ECHO consultations. Rounding with pain management attending, creating admission, progress, discharge, and follow-up visits. Documenting notes when appropriate, and writing orders and prescribing medication under physician oversight. Providing patient, family, caregiver and staff education. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Master's or Doctoral Degree from a program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission (ACEN-Formerly NCLAC) or the Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Nurse Practitioners must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected. Preferred Experience and Certifications: Research experience which includes the following: working and communicating effectively as a team member and maintaining a collaborative relationship with the medical director and research staff. Preparing, approving, obtaining and collating regulatory documentation such assigned informed consent forms, relevant IRB approvals, source documentation, drug dispensing logs, and study-related communications. Ensuring compliance with applicable licensure and certification requirements, applicable healthcare standards, governmental laws and regulation as well as policies and procedures. Providing safe quality care and oversight to subjects in the research setting. Consenting eligible subjects using the IRB approved consent process. Coordination of subject recruitment, screening, enrollment, and follow-up of eligible subjects according to protocol requirements. Assisting in summarizing and results presentation and publication. Three or more years of post-masters degree clinical experience in a hospital, nursing home, or clinic preferred. Pain Management experience preferred. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse II Scope. Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. Education and Experience Requirement. Meets basic education requirement for APN (CNS). Nurse II is considered the entry grade level for APN (CNSs); no experience is required. Dimension Requirement. APN (CNSs) at grade II are expected to meet the following dimension requirements: Clinical Practice. Delivers evidence-based health care, demonstrating proficiency in the ability to manage a patient panel, population or program. Outcome Focus. Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to evaluate the patient care delivery system within a patient panel or program, presents findings and contributes to changes that enhance the quality and timeliness of veteran/patient care. Leadership. Works effectively as a leader within a team/unit/group and seeks interdisciplinary collaboration as appropriate to enhance patient care. Professional Development. Acquires knowledge and skills to develop expertise in area of practice. Professionalism/Collegiality. Demonstrates effective communication skills and professional behavior, promoting cooperation and teamwork. Participates in interdisciplinary teams and processes that positively impact patient outcomes. Nurse III Scope. Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience and creative approaches to management of complex client care. Education and Experience Requirement. Meets basic education requirement for an APN (CNS) AND One year of specialized APN (CNS) experience equivalent to the Nurse II grade level. Dimension Requirement. APN (CNSs) at grade III are expected to meet the following dimension requirements: Clinical Practice. Influences and models the delivery of evidence- based health care, demonstrating expertise in the ability to manage a patient panel, population or program. Outcome Focus. Leads and implements changes that enhance the quality and timeliness of Veteran/patient care applying research and evidence in the delivery of healthcare for patient populations. Leadership. Initiates and leads interdisciplinary teams informed by structured approaches and processes to improve outcomes that positively impact care for a patient panel, population or program. Professional Development. Acquires knowledge and skills, then disseminates acquired information within and/or outside the medical facility. Professionalism/Collegiality. Initiates and leads interdisciplinary teams developing systems that positively impact outcomes at the panel, population, or program level. Demonstrates effective communication skills and professional behavior, promoting cooperation and teamwork.
