Duties

You will develop short range work plans and execute those plans in cooperation with other division personnel You will determine, collect and process forest inventory data for timber stand prescriptions. You will provide natural resource technical assistance to military units, to ensure that training is complete with state, federal, Department of Defense and Air Station regulations. You will train and direct the work of field personnel assigned to forestry tasks, such as wildland fire operations, timber access road maintenance and prescribe burning activities. You will repair and maintain forestry related equipment such as pumps, sprayers, mensuration tools, and chainsaws. You will act as the primary wildland fire initial attack unit dozer/fireplow operator in suppressing small fires.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Class A Driver's License within one year of employment and maintain on-base driving privileges once obtained.
  • You must pass Arduous Level Wildland Fire Fighting Work Capacity Test annually.
  • You will be subject to call back for work during off-duty hours when an emergency arises to include nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: forestry aid or technician work; engineering, range, or soil conservation technician work, farming or ranching work; forest or range fire control, prevention, or suppression work.
