About the Position: Serves as Chief, Assessment Division under the Director for the Military Corrections Complex, United States Disciplinary Barracks (USDB) and the Joint Regional Correctional Facility (JRCF) Directorate of Treatment Programs. Position classified as a Secondary Law Enforcement Officer position.

Duties

As Chief, Assessment Division, responsible for planning, developing, directing and evaluating an admission classification/rehabilitative planning program for the institution. Develop an intake risk assessment and rehabilitation treatment plan based on the needs of each inmate incarcerated; drafts and recommends policies and procedures of the organization level correctional facility programs and activities. Develops and updates polices in keeping with existing regulations, management principles, standards and ethics governing social work and correctional mental health conduct. Provides administrative and technical oversight to civilian employees and military service members. Serves as a group therapy facilitator for complex treatment groups of inmates, providing interventions to assist inmates in changing their behaviors, attitudes, and values that contributed to the commission of their criminal acts. Implement initial psychopathy intake interview, psychological testing, and psycho-educational group instruction for each inmate in reception.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Applicants must have an independent clinical license, be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Employee must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires the employee to complete the Army Corrections Command Pre-Service Training program m to maintain security and control of inmates, appropriate staff/inmate interaction and understanding the rules of inmate conduct.
  • This position requires the employee to be on call after normal duty hours.
  • All Army Corrections Command employees are required to take 40 hours of training annually. Employees will receive basic training in inmate supervision and security as well as specialized training in their field.
  • This position requires a medical screening and immunizations upon appointment and an annual re-evaluation. Employee must undergo screening for tuberculosis in conjunction with their annual medical evaluation.
  • This position requires a current, active Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/AED Professional Rescuer Course or any other BLS course authorized by the Department of Army.
  • Department of Defense Instruction, Number 1325.7(6.14.3) states all confinement facility personnel shall possess a high degree of maturity and emotional stability.
  • All confinement facility personnel shall have no civilian felony convictions or court-martial convictions for any offense with a maximum authorized sentence to confinement of over one year.
  • Section 639 of Public Law 106-554 requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony.
  • IAW The Prison Rape Elimination Act, the MCC may not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates, has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup community conferment facility, juvenile facility, or other institution.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • The incumbent of this position will comply with all provisions of the 15th MP BDE Regulation 190-3, Rules of Conduct and ACC Policy Letter #17, Standards of Conduct.
  • Personnel who enter the Military Corrections Complex (within or outside the fence line) consent to inspection of their person and property, including their vehicle.
  • Work requires indirect contact with inmates convicted of offenses against the punitive articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. However requires the first line supervision of law enforcement officer positions classified as primary/rigorous.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
