About the Position: This position will serve as a Supervisory Social Worker position at the Military Corrections Complex. This position is primary/rigorous and is eligible for Law Enforcement (LEO retirement coverage. The maximum entry age may be waived under certain circumstances. The work requires frequent, direct contact with inmates. Individuals who are past the maximum entry age limit, but previously served in a primary position, may be reinstated.

Duties

Responsible for developing and administering all treatment programs designed to help inmates in recognizing and constructively acting upon patterns of behavior, attitudes, and values that contributed to the commission of their criminal acts. Applies current directives and accepted clinical principles and practices in directing individual case counseling and group rehabilitation of the inmates. Develops and updates polices in keeping with existing regulations, management principles, standards and ethics governing social work and correctional mental health conduct. Provides administrative and technical oversight to civilian employees and military service members. Serves as a group therapy facilitator for complex treatment groups of inmates, providing interventions to assist inmates in changing their behaviors, attitudes, and values that contributed to the commission of their criminal acts.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Applicants must have an independent clinical license, be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Employee must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires the employee to complete the Army Corrections Command Pre-Service Training program.
  • This position requires the employee to be on call after normal duty hours.
  • All Army Corrections Command employees are required to take 40 hours of training annually. Employees will receive basic training in inmate supervision and security as well as specialized training in their field.
  • This position requires a medical screening and immunizations upon appointment and an annual re-evaluation. Employee must undergo screening for tuberculosis in conjunction with their annual medical evaluation.
  • This position requires a current, active Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/AED Professional Rescuer Course or any other BLS course authorized by the Department of Army.
  • This position meets the eligibility requirements as a secondary law enforcement officer (LEO) position in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 8331 (20) 5 U.S.C. 8401(17), 5 C.F.R. 831 Subpart I, and 5 C.F.R. 842, Subpart H.
  • The work requires indirect contact in the detention of inmates convicted of offenses against the punitive articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
  • However, requires the first line supervision of law enforcement officer positions classified as primary/rigorous in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 8331 (20) 5 U.S.C. 8401(17), 5 C.F.R. 831 Subpart I, and 5 C.F.R. 842, Subpart H.
  • Department of Defense Instruction, Number 1325.7(6.14.3) states all confinement facility personnel shall possess a high degree of maturity and emotional stability.
  • and have no civilian felony convictions or court-martial convictions for any offense with a maximum authorized sentence to confinement of over one year.
  • Section 639 of Public Law 106-554 requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony.
  • IAW 28 C.R.R. Part 115, the MCC shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting bio-psychosocial evaluations for complex behavioral health patients, providing individual or group therapy, providing diagnosis of behavioral health symptoms, and formulating behavioral health treatment plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Managing Human ResourcesOral CommunicationTechnical CompetenceTherapy and Counseling Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). All Applicants must meet time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements with thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement.
