This position is located in the Veterans Health Administration, VA Medical Center, Durham, NC, Office of the Associate Director, Patient Care Services, Chief Nurse Executive. The incumbent manages and coordinates all activities between Human Resources, Medical Services, Surgical Services, the Director's office, Patient Care Service, and other Services/Service Lines.
Duties
MAJOR DUTIES:
Incumbent is the primary NPSB point of contact for the Medical Center to include Human Resources, Service line Managers, state Board of Nursing, Board Chairs, and board members regarding monitoring/tracking the status of proficiencies, awards, promotions, boards and personnel actions. Incumbent manages the NPSB database including report development and distribution of medical center weekly, monthly, quarterly and ad hoc reports.
Responsible for pre-board record reviews utilizing alternative methods when cyber-verification is not available. Incumbent reviews, and determines the adequacy of license verifications, documentation of experience, proficiency timeliness, type of appointment, and all other related information for a complete and correct board action. The incumbent prepares all decision letters for Chief Nurse Exec1,.1tive's recommendation for the Medical Center Director's approval. Reviews notes made by the board chair or secretary and resolves issues or discrepancies noted during the boarding process.
Incumbent prepares and maintains accurate and complete files on all medical center registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants as required and secures all confidential information and documents.
Works closely with the Nurse recruiter, VetPro Specialist and the office of Credentialing and Privileging to prepare initial boarding for newly recruited registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants.
Manages the documentation and records for the boarding files, both electronic and hard copy.
Incumbent troubleshoots error messages received from the Human Resources and determines where the error exists, and takes appropriate action to resolve the issue and ensure accuracy of the employee record.
Incumbent provides technical advice and assistance to Nurse Managers, employees, and Service/Service Line officials, pertaining to policies and procedures related to the NPSB process.
The employee independently creates/maintains databases and other record keeping systems that meet the needs of the program. Responsible for the collection, compilation, and analysis of data and statistical information. Assists in the planning, review, and reporting of data or statistical results. Establishes protocols for incoming data, organizes computerized data sets, and retrieves computerized data. Performs analyses of the data and generates a variety of reports.
Maintains library of registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and nurse assistant functional statements and coordinates renewal, approval and publication to the intranet.
Performs other directly related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/18/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

Proficiency Requirement: Clerk-Typist, Office Automation Clerk/Assistant and Positions with Parenthetical Titles of (Typing), (Office Automation)
Clerk-Typist, GS-2/4; Office Automation Clerk/ Assistant (any grade); (Typing) (any grade); and (Office Automation) (any grade): require 40 words per minute typing speed.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing administrative functions, office operations and technology support for an organization; establishing and maintaining filing systems; experience using automated software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint); typing letters, memos, reports; maintaining calendars and schedules.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. It occasionally requires carrying light objects such as files, books, and papers. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
