If selected for this position, you will serve as a Training Technician with responsibilities that include working closely with the Training Specialist and Education Specialist to ensure accomplishment of education, training, or career development programs for Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ), APHIS, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employees, and/or other stakeholders (i.e., federal, military, state cooperators, private sector personnel, etc.)

Duties

The duties may include, but are not limited to: Delivers short and basic presentations to training participants following instructional delivery standards. Serves as the primary technical support provider with emphasis on learning management systems and authoring tools and their uses to enhance course content delivery. Recommends improvements in process and written materials and integration of technology in the classroom. Formats, proofreads, edits, and finalizes, and maintains documents and instructional materials within rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style. Research, compiles and summarizes statistics and informational data collected. Organizes logistics for training delivery and conducts cost analysis.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. TIME-IN-GRADE: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. FOR THE GS-07 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Applying distance learning concepts and technologies to provide support for synchronous or asynchronous instruction Operating learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Moodle) to enhance course content delivery Performing logistical support to facilitate the delivery of training Proofreading instructional materials to ensure conformance with training standards or manuals Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
