These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS), Assistant Commandant for Human Resources (CG-1), Personnel Service Center (PSC), Business Operations Division, Capability Branch 10C, Military Human Resources Records Section, Washington DC. 

Duties

You will serve as a Human Resources Assistant responsible for ensuring the accuracy and accountability of all USCG Active Duty, Reserve, and Retired vital military personnel record documents in the Coast Guard Military Human Resource Record (CGMHRR) Section and the Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). You will also serve as the main point of contact for customer service inquiries and first-level problem resolution of batch issues within the Coast Guard’s (CG) instance of the U.S. Army’s Interactive Personnel Electronic Records Management System (iPERMS); ensuring the accuracy and accountability of all USCG active duty, reserve, and retired OMPF records. Being a USCG civilian makes you a valuable member of the USCG team.   • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position requires a Public Trust Investigation.
  • Applicant maybe required to serve a one-year probationary position.

Qualifications

Grade 8: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Maintaining records to ensure they are accurate and up to date; using automated systems to perform administrative support functions (i.e. reviewing information for discrepancies, maintaining databases, and preparing reports, briefings, and correspondence); reviewing and processing a wide variety of non-recurring military payroll transactions; determining entitlements; verifying all documents for propriety, completeness and accuracy; resolving problems within automated pay accounts related to payroll actions, regulations, policies, and procedures. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
