One position is located in Anchorage, Alaska and two additional vacancies are located at either Falls Church, VA, Milwaukee, WI or Flowood - MS. Additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available.
Salary for Anchorage, AK is $67,738 to $106,541; Falls Church, VA is $68,405 to $107,590; Milwaukee, WI is $62,702 to $98,620; & Flowood, MS is $59,966 to $94,317.
Duties
Research, draft and distribute informational materials and products designed to further public, employee and customer understanding and support of the organization’s mission.
Analyze public land issues to develop and implement communications strategies and materials for a variety of resource management programs. Assist personnel in preparing for media coverage of special events.
Assist with the production of a broad range of creative, informative print, electronic and digital products in support of the organization’s communication objectives.
Research and prepare news releases for distribution to traditional and digital media. Brief media on the organization’s programs, activities and impact on public and private activities.
Use established communications research and planning principles to develop portions of strategic and crisis communications plans. Integrate national messages into communication plans and include metrics to measure effectiveness as practicable.

To qualify for the GS-09 level:
You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal Service performing duties of the skills necessary to apply this knowledge to a broad range of natural resource communications and outreach assignments. Specialized experience must include 1) Evaluating, writing and producing a wide variety of internal and external products for print, video, web, social media and multimedia such as talking points, news releases, media advisories, feature stories and briefing papers on science and natural resource issues and communication and outreach plans; 2) Serving as an agency spokesperson in a variety of settings to include media relations such as preparing subject matter experts and leadership for interviews, developing key messages and pitching stories to partners and media and tracking result; and 3) Maintaining and implementing public information and community relations and outreach programs.

Education: Have completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in such programs as Public Relations, Communication, Journalism, English, Business, Natural or Social Science or a related field.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
To qualify for the GS-11 level:
You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal Service performing duties of the skills necessary to apply this knowledge to a broad range of natural resource communications and outreach. Specialized experience must include: 1) Evaluating, writing and producing a wide variety of internal and external products for print, video, web, social media and multimedia such as talking points, news releases, media advisories, feature stories and briefing papers on complex science and natural resource issues and communication and outreach plans; 2) Serving as an agency spokesperson in a variety of settings to include all aspects of media relations such as preparing subject matter experts and leadership for interviews, developing key messages and pitching stories to partners and media and tracking results; and 3) Developing, maintaining, and implementing public information and community relations and outreach programs.
OR
Education: Have completed 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading towards or possess a Ph.D., LL.M or equivalent doctoral degree in such programs as Public Relations, Communication, Journalism, English, Business, Natural or Social Science or a related field.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Physical Demands: May walk long distances over rough terrain carrying a backpack and/or equipment up to 20 pounds. Long work days are occasionally required to meet deadlines and resolve specific problems.
