Duties

This position will assist in the following tasks: - Developing and using tools for Technical Language Processing (TLP) approaches. - Develop and use data curation and extraction tools to extract technical text data from documents including those in PDF. - Use the Configurable Data Curation System (CDCS) as part of pipelines to curate training data sets for large language models and machine learning. - Develop Large Language Model-based TLP tools and approaches to process and analyze technical text. - Running, tuning, and refining Large Language Models (LLMs). - Work with group researchers to deploy, fine tune, and otherwise refine available LLMs to achieve research objectives. - Develop and deploy LLM-related infrastructure, such as retrieval augmented generation (RAG) frameworks to augment base LLMs. - Developing and using Data Science-based approaches to characterize TLP- and LLM-based tools. - Characterize LLM-generated text using a variety of text analytics approaches to gain insight in LLM behavior, with a focus on TLP applications. - Develop and use LLM-generated text as synthetic data to evaluate TLP tools and methodologies in low-resource contexts. - Presenting results. - Present research plans and findings at group, division, and institute levels. - Present research at conferences and other research-related venues. - Preparing publications. - Work with collaborators to prepare research publications for dissemination at conferences and via scientific journals.

Qualifications

You must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree in Computer Science OR a degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science and at least 15 of the 30 semester hours include any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. In additional to the above, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education or Applicants may qualify based on superior academic achievement and completion of a bachelor's degree. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application. All applicants must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, degree) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled). In addition, you must be enrolled in school for the duration of the appointment. You will be required to provide documentation to support your eligibility for the program.

Applicants must possess a grade point average (GPA) of a 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0. Grade-point averages are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9.If you are submitting an acceptance/enrollment letter from your university you MUST also upload your last known unofficial transcript containing your cumulative GPA. If you do not provide proof of GPA, you will be disqualified from further consideration.
