Duties

Organizational Location: These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement & Removal Operations (ERO), in Atlanta, Georgia, Boston, Massachusetts, Buffalo, New York, Centennial, Colorado, Chantilly, Virginia, Chicago, Illinois, Fort Snelling, Minnesota, Harlingen, Texas, New York, New York, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Phoenix, Arizona, Salt Lake City, Utah, and San Francisco, California.These are non-bargaining unit positions. Salary: The salary range indicated in this announcement reflects the lowest and highest potential salaries for this position. The actual salary range will be based on the applicable locality pay for the selected duty location. General Schedule locality pay tables may be found under Salaries & Wages. As a Supervisory Mission Support Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Serve as a supervisor, to a group of administrative employees who are responsible for assessing the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of program operations or who analyze and resolve problems in the effectiveness and efficiency of administrative support and staff activities. The work provides complex administrative services, including, but are not limited to, budget; procurement; human resources; property; fleet; travel; acquisitions; facilities; reorganization/realignment actions; and internal controls. Identify ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of these services at the local level and provide representation for the office in dealings with vendors and organizations within the agency that have primary responsibility for these services. Plan the work to be accomplished by your subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of the work based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees and evaluate work performance of subordinates. Interview candidates for positions in the unit; recommend appointment, promotion, or reassignment to such positions. Effect minor disciplinary measures; promote affirmative action/equal employment opportunity programs; identify developmental training needs of employees, provide, and arrange for needed development and training; find ways to improve productivity or increase the quality of the work directed; and/or develop performance standards.

  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Performing functional specialties such as budget, management analysis, human resources management, training, logistics/procurement, security, and safety. Applying and modifying, if necessary, established practices to specific administrative problems, including how to treat unusual circumstances or situations and conducting independent evaluations of administrative functions. Preparing study findings, recommendations, and reports as well as providing advice on a variety of administrative and management programs and procedures. Making agreements and commitments at meetings and during telephone discussions. Performing liaison functions with other organizations, including effectively presenting the organization's needs and establishing harmonious working relations with counterparts.
