As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will collect, assemble, prepare, and disseminate information concerning the various aspects of OCC's press relations program.
This position is located in the Comptroller's Office, Public Affairs & Congressional Relations, Washington, DC
Duties
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:
Develop and execute communication plans to take advantage of print, radio, television and online media outlets, and other emerging opportunities. Write, edit, and manage news releases, talking points, public service announcements, fact sheets, and other material for distribution internally and externally to OCC.
Maintain press relations media contact data. Provide counsel and recommendations to OCC staff on media relations activities. Represent the OCC and press relations team in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Research, prepare, and present analysis of media coverage, news releases, and public service program by ensuring effectiveness and impact. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and agency officials. Respond to news media inquiries about OCC functions, policies, programs, and activities as directed.
Plan, coordinate, and participate in meetings and events with OCC officials for news media interviews and provides media training. Advise senior public affairs staff on developing plans, policies, and procedures for the media relations program and activities, and identifies issues or concerns.
Prepare press relations material for distribution and coordinates the posting of news releases to OCC Web sites, e-mail distribution lists, and news release distribution services. Research, develop, write, and pitch story ideas to national, regional, and local media representatives.
Develop and maintain relationships with media representatives to advance OCC's goals regarding press relations and the dissemination of information to the public, the press, and specialized audiences.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the NB-IV or GS-11 level in the federal service.
Examples of Specialized Experience for this position includes:
Providing recommendations to promote press and/or media relations activities; And
Preparing news articles and other related communication products for distribution to media, posting to online platforms (such as websites, distribution via email subscription lists, and news release distribution services); And
Researching and analyzing media content,
The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
