This position is located in Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard, Director of Logistics, Base Portsmouth, Facilities Engineering Department, in Portsmouth, VA.
Duties
As an Engineering Technician, the incumbent’s responsibilities relate to a wide range of engineering functions involved in the testing operation, installation, maintenance, repair and modification of equipment and systems for all shore facilities at the Base.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized Experience:
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:
Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated
In addition to the above Basic Requirement, those applying for GS-10 must have experience in: generating work request outlines, conducting corrective maintenance on equipment, and providing inputs for repairing a wide variety of equipment.
In addition to the above Basic Requirement, those applying for GS-11 must have experience in: preparing costs estimates and analyzing work request for completeness, planning of corrective maintenance and modernization projects, and manufacturing/modifying/repairing a wide variety of equipment.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
