In this position you will serve as C-12 Formal Training Unit Instructor, responsible for Training initial, requalification, Senior Officer Course Students in support of AFMC, AMC, PACAF, DIA, and DSCA Missions. Flies test sorties, conducts mission briefs, debriefs, provides direction to policy critical to flight safety, aircraft performing test.

Pilots C-12 tests or chase (i.e., safety, target, photo) test support aircraft under conditions ranging from normal operations to those of significant risk and hazard. Supports flight operations by acting as squadron Training Officer and/or Scheduling Officer and/or Safety Officer and/or Stan/Eva\ Officer and/or Assistant Operations Officer as required. Performs duties as Supervisor of Flying. Develops plans and policies relating to test conduct, monitors test operations, and advises government agencies and contractors. Manages research, test and evaluation projects and programs. Conducts required ground and flight training IAW C-12 training programs and syllabi. Acts as a C-12 SME for syllabus and USAF C-12 regulation re-writes, including Technical Orders, AFMANs, and Unit Standards. Additionally, conducts C-12 test support missions, including chase, avionics testing, low level surveys, and the test parachute program airdrops. (SOF) and Operations Duty Officer (ODO). May be called upon to act as Squadron Supervisor as required.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and Office of Personnel Managment (OPM) prescribed "Unscheduled Telework."
  • A Top Secret clearance is required. Candidate should have a current SSBI and be TS/SCI eligible.
  • Locations are not negotiable. The actual duty locations available may be located on the Air Force Civilian Service website.
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position.

  • Previous experience as an instructor pilot in military aircraft is required.
  • Physical required: The position will include flying duties. Flying duties will require exposure to a dynamic and physically demanding flight environment.
  • Incumbents on flying status must pass and maintain a USAF Flying Class III physical IAW AFI 48-123.
  • Incumbent must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating; both meet the intent of the requirement. The FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or the military equivalent rating is also required.
  • The pilot certificate must include the rating(s) appropriate to the work of the position to be filled (CFII and MEI, or military equivalents). Navy instructor experience identified as NATOPS, is acceptable for the instructor requirement.
  • This position MAY be eligible for a recruitment/relocation incentive. Specifics will be discussed with the Selecting Oficial.
  • Incumbent may be required to stand for several hours at a time while instructing in a classroom environment.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Incumbent is subject to work other than normal duty hours, which may change daily due to flying and academic work schedules.

Qualifications/Requirements: Conducts up to 11 courses per year and approximately 44 students. Flies test sorties, conducts mission briefs and debriefs, and provides direction to policy critical to flight test safety and technical adequacy of aircraft performing test at Edwards. 1) Total Flight Time - 1500 Flight Hours - Flight time as pilot-in-command or copilot in aircraft of any weight or category is creditable for this requirements. 2) Pilot-in-Command - 250 Flight Hours - Only flight hours acquired as pilot-in-command are creditable. 3) Instructor Hours - 500 Flight Hours - Only flight hours acquired as instructor are creditable. 4) Flying Time, Multi-Engine Aircraft - 500 flight hours required, Operational military transport, tanker or bomber experience desired. 5) Night Flying - 75 Flight Hours desired. 6) Instrument - 75 Flight Hours required; Simulated instrument time is also acceptable as part of this total. 7) Flying Time, Last 12 Months - 100 Flight Hours required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): 1. Expert level of technical knowledge and demonstrated expert skill to operate and maintain qualification in assigned aircraft. 2. Expert level of knowledge of the missions, roles, functions, organizational structures and operation of the Department of Defense, Air Force and other entries that govern, interface with and/or influence the systems acquisition process for Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E). 3. Expert level of knowledge to analyze and draw conclusions regarding test mission results and write technical reports appropriate for senior executive and technical level reviews. 4. Expert level of knowledge of flight test techniques and test procedures in a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods for the planning and assessment of operational tests for highly complex test missions. 5. Expert level ability to analyze, interpret and apply policies, rules, regulations, laws, directive and procedures relating to the conduct of flight test operations in addition to effectively communicating orally and in writing. 6. Expert level of knowledge, skill, and ability to conduct ground and in-flight instruction to include theory, planning, execution, data analysis, and reporting. To include physically strenuous work environment and to adapt to irregular scheduling and non-standard work hours.
